Direct Car Insurance UK - A Review

A look at getting direct car insurance quotes

Most people will find their UK car insurance policy via a price comparison site. They like the convenience of filling in just one form to then, potentially, save over a hundred pounds on their renewal quote. If considered at all, the quality of the product that they are buying takes second place to the money that they are able to save.

In many cases, indeed most, such an approach is followed by no adverse consequences. Money is saved and if there is no accident, there is no 'day of reckoning' when it becomes clear how the insurance company saved money - it passed significant costs back to you. These costs include a high excess and the lack of back up for other losses, such as the cost of alternative transport.

As the point of car insurance is to minimise your own expenditure if you have an accident, these 'no frills' policies - that feature well on price comparison sites because they're cheap - don't really meet this central and key requirement that ought really to be built-in to any car insurance policy as standard.

While price comparison sites check better quality car insurance policies too, these quotes, by pure economic necessity will not be the cheapest, while, determining exactly what you're getting thorugh a price comparison site in terms of the policy detials is not really possible if done with attention to the kind of detail that will allow for an informed choice.

All of which brings us to the less prevalently used route to car insurance in the UK, but which can be very easily argued as the better route to cover, as we'll lay out here.

And that route is going direct to a top car insurance company. The reason is that leading car insurance brands compete on quality of cover and price with other leading brands. Yes, they may offer no-frills variants to compete on price comparison sites but their 'standard' policies offer the kind of cover that will serve you well in an accdient - the optimal balance between a reasonanble price and what you get included in the cover.

When you compare car insurance policies from these leading insurance companies, not only do you appreciate their good 'standard' cover but prices are also very close for like products compared to to other leading insurance providers. It couldn't be otherwise in such a competitive market as car insurance.

The notion that low price alone is the most important consideration is, in fact, a ridiculous assertion. You pay for what you get. The wise approach is to find that optimal balance between cost and cover which just happens to be what the big providers do as standard.

It would seem that these argumetns are not lost on the UK public as more and more return to going direct for car insurance, increasingly recognising that the premise on which price comparison sites operate - that price is all - is faulty.
